Ford: 2000 ford ranger, ford ranger, cleen

Requesting info on 2000 ford ranger 4cyl.  The ranger has been running real funny.  When I go to start it up it tends to stall once in a while.  And just the other day it stalled out as I was driving down the road.  Every time I would have to down shift the vehicle would die.  When it is idling it sounds rough like it is having a hard time to stay running.

Remove the air filter tube that goes to the throttle body and look inside to see if you have any carbon or oil build up if so with the key off have someone hold the gas peddle to the floor and useing a tooth brush and some carb. cleaner spray and cleen with the tooth brush.wipe out as much as you can with a rag .reasmable and start  it up it may take a couple trys but it will start.Let me know if this works if not i will walk you through a pin point test.
