Is it cheaper to refuel your EV battery or gas tank? We did the math

Assumptions:

- Electricity price: $0.15 per kWh

- Gasoline price: $4 per gallon

- EV battery capacity: 60 kWh

- Gasoline tank capacity: 15 gallons

- EV energy consumption: 25 kWh/100 miles

- Gasoline car fuel efficiency: 30 MPG

Calculations:

1. EV refueling cost per mile:

= Electricity price * (EV energy consumption / 100 miles)

= $0.15 * (25 kWh / 100 miles)

= $0.15 * 0.25

= $0.0375 per mile

2. Gasoline refueling cost per mile:

= Gasoline price * (1 gallon / Gas car fuel efficiency)

= $4 * (1 gallon / 30 MPG)

= $4 * 0.0333

= $0.1333 per mile

3. Cost comparison:

= Gasoline refueling cost per mile / EV refueling cost per mile

= $0.1333 / $0.0375

= 3.56

Conclusion:

Based on these assumptions, it is cheaper to refuel an EV battery than a gasoline tank. The cost of refueling an EV battery per mile is approximately 3.56 times less than the cost of refueling a gasoline tank per mile.
