where is the fuel filter on my GMC truck.  it is a 1990 serria and it is a diesel

It should be on the passenger side of the firewall and the element looks like the one shown in this URL: http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=33136

You cannot see the four black grommets until you remove the element from the base.  The element is held on by spring clips on the top and bottom.

There is a drain screw on the engine side, lower end of the base.  Drain the fuel from the filter before replacing the element.  There is a bleeder screw on the top to help get rid of the air in the filter element after it has been changed.
