GM-GMC: Rear Main Seal, tom curry, oil pan

Question
Can I change the rear main seal on the 6.2 by just dropping the transmission and oil pan or do I need to pull the engine?
It is 4WD.

Unfortunately, you did not provide the year of the engine.

Before 1992-1993, the 6.2s used a split main seal and removal of the oil pan is necessary to replace the seal.

When the 10149599 block came out in 1992-1993, the rear main became a one piece design and requires removal of the transmission to change it.

All 1994 and newer engines use the one piece design.
