GM-GMC: power steering, v belt pulley, power steering pumps
QuestionI have a 1985 gmc 1/2 ton 4x4 that had a 6.2 diesel and now has a 1979 350 engine in it. It has the power steering pump that came off the diesel and goes with the hydro-boost brake system. I am looking for a pully and mounting brakets for this power steering pump. can you help?
AnswerI think that you will need the brackets for a 350 gas engine. The power steering pump is the same as those used on gas engines, except for the addition hoses required for the Hydro-Boost system. You may not be able to secure the pump in the different brackets in exactly as many places, but as long as you can adjust the V-belt for tension and obtain proper belt alignment, everything should be fine.
Most early GM diesels had a two groove V-belt pulley that should work, even if only one belt is used to drive the pump. Most salvage yards should have core power steering pumps from which a pulley can be obtained. should you have a pump with a serpentine belt pulley on it.
