QuestionCan a 1992 Geo Storm with auto transmission be successfully towed behind a motor home without major modifications?>?
AnswerHiya - yep, tis the season for this isn't it!
As far as I know, the only way to tow this particular car, is to have an oiling system installed into it so that everything stays lubricated while being towed. These are available from towing/hitch specialty shops.
There are three other alternatives to your situation, both having to do with getting a newer, or different car.
You could get a small four wheel drive truck with a transfer case that has a neutral position. This disconnects the driveline.
A small GM car (Chevy Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire,(1995-2000) or Saturn) with the 4T40E automatic transmission. This tranny can be flat towed behind your motorhome without any major modifications. Check out GM Bulletin # 00-00-89-008 for more info. If you need a copy, let me know and I can fax one over.
Lastly, you can go for any manual transmission equipped car/small truck. Leaving it in neutral will also do the job for you.
I hope that this helps to answer some questions, but if you need any further info, please feel free to drop me a line.
Automotively yours,
