Jumpstarting a car - AAA used the negative?

It's generally recommended to connect the negative (black) jumper cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery and the positive (red) jumper cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery. Then, the positive (red) jumper cable should be connected to the positive terminal of the working battery, and the negative (black) jumper cable should be connected to an unpainted metal surface on the frame of the dead vehicle, not the battery. This helps prevent sparks near the battery.
