QuestionI just purchased a 1975 Mercedes 450SL, drove it today, parked it and after 90 minutes the hood was still entirely too hot. It is blowing hot air constantly and the temp gauge was over 200. There is something wrong here. This car is get too hot and stays too hot even after its turned off. What can be the problems to check for?
AnswerBest advice:
Do NOT start it again.
Tow it to the nearest Mercedes Benz dealer, and have it checked for plugged Catalytic Converters.
The temperature gauge reads Celsius; not Fahrenheit.
200 Celsius = 392 Fahrenheit = possible junked engine...
Temperature gauge should read 80C - 90C = 176F - 194F average operation.
If it is not plugged Catalytic Converters; the problem is more serious.
