QuestionI have an 82 cutlass that was garage kept by my 82 yr family memeber and when i got it 2 yrs ago only had 34,000 orginal miles on there. Needless to say i have been experiencing some leakage, my transmission fluids are low, and my antifreeze seems to leaking out perfusly causing the car to run hot. I replace the bottom rediator hose because the fan belt cuts into it regularly causing it to be replaced like twice a year. But the leak seems to be coming from the top of the engine..And I have no clue what it could be. And I am a woman whose knowledge about cars are little to none, i would like to have some insight when i take it to be repaired...Please help
Answer1.Add transmission fluid if its low, the same could be said for all fluids.
I think you mean that the "top radiator hose was cut by the fan belt". If you have a fan thats cutting into your radiator hoses then you might want to have a certified ASE mechanic give your car a lookover.
The leak at the top of the engine sounds like a leaky radiator bypass hose, Upper Radiator hose, the actual clamp end that meets the hose sometimes if not serviced can wear out , thermostat housing.
All in all very simple and could be fixed for a low price. Just ask for a lookover most shops won't even charge for that. Piece of mind in the longrun.
