Oldsmobile/Buick: Ignition Switch Problem, olsmobile alero, switch problem

I have a 2000 olsmobile alero and I went to the store and when I came out and got in my car, I placed the key in the ignition switch and could not get the key to turn.  The switch would not turn at all.  How do i get my switch to turn on?

Did you make sure the car was completely in park ? Sometimes when a transmission isn't completely in park the ignition column won't let you turn the key forward . Some cars are also armed with a switch on the column that you have to push/turn ultimately releasing the ignition to turn the key . Other then that I have no other information regarding your particular car , since my knowledge of Oldsmobiles only goes as far as the late 80's .
