Pontiac: 2000 Grand Am SeEcutting out, fuel pump, grand am se
QuestionLast week I bought a 2000 Grand Am SE with 100,000 miles on it. I took it on a trip and at about 400 miles it cut out. Just like someone turned the key off....I coasted to the side of the road. It wouldnt start until 5 minutes after it had been sitting there and then it ran fine for a while. But, after 50 miles it cut out and stalled again. It did this 2 more times, and the last time the car barely wanted to start. I took it to a dealer and they cannot find anything wrong with it after hooking it up to their computer, everything shows fine. They are suggesting a fuel pump. I know 2000 Grand Am's have had a lot of fuel pump problems. Somewhere else I read that the problem could be the catalytic converter being clogged. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.
AnswerWell first of all, its not the converter. It could be a fuel pump problem, or it could be an ignition problem.
It would help if you would have told me what engine you have in the car. That way I could at least have told you what the common problems are.
