QuestionQUESTION: The A/C in my March 1993 SAAB 900 Turbo is not functioning. As I live in
Florida and the A/C never worked well anyway, does it make more sense to have
it completely replaced (possibly by a non-SAAB A/C) or it just have it repaired?
ANSWER: Stan:
By far, the most likely cause of a non-functioning a/c is compressor failure. Rebuilt compressors are available for $200-$300 plus installation which for your vehicle, is relatively simple.
I would stick with the original system; when properly functioning, its always worked well (here in the Northeast, anyway!).
Have you consulted a local a/c shop? Finding a competent one (sometimes a challenge) is the best bet.

QUESTION: As you state, finding a competent local A/C shop is a challenge. Can you or any
of your contacts recommend a competent A/C shop in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale
area?
AnswerStan:
Go to the following website:
<http://cartalk.com/> and scroll down to "find a good mechanic" on the right hand side. This is a compilation of sources of repair that have been recommended by others as being fair and competent. Hope you can locate someone thusly!!
