i have a 1972 bus with air in it but the bus was in pieces before i got it and would like to get it working but have no idea how it works

I could try to explain all the components, but a picture is worth a thousand words.  Here's a basic diagram of typical A/C system.  Then you need to identify the components you see here with the pile of parts you have.  I suggest if you are starting from no experience, get the Haynes manual on auto air conditioning systems, about $20 on Amazon.com.
