Volkswagen: 04 beetle convertible, norhtern california, dying breed
QuestionQUESTION: top problems, been to dealer 6 times. works, then hangs up. the rear "flaps" behind windows don't always come back to rest when lowering. Seems intermittent. Frustrated with dealers attempts to repair. Suggestions?
ANSWER: haven't done a lot of these repairs, usually either the "flaps" are out of adjustment or the motor for the roof is low on oil/or bad. A dealer should have no problem isolating the problem if it is electrical, however I get a lot of notes from folks who are not pleased with their dealers all over the country. Us techs who really love what we work on are a dying breed I think. Sorry I can't be of more help. However I think there is good info in the Bentley repair manuals on top adjustment. A great read for your car if you want to learn a bit. You are not in the carolina area of the country by chance are you? I may be able to help if so.
thanks and good luck,

QUESTION: We're in the Norhtern California area, but if this keeps up, we may take a x-country drive....... This was "dream" car" for daughter (in part a convert) but her dream is turning into a "nightmare". Thanks for help; I'll look into the Bentley approach...after another try with the dealer; it's still under warranty.
AnswerRich I absolutely understand the frustration. I have been there. If the car is under warranty, please make sure you return this car to the same dealer and call VW of America. Start a case study and "normally" VWOA will ensure the dealer gets the correct procedure for aligning the top and making the correct repair. good luck with this, I know it can be frustrating. Anything else pops up, please let me know,
