Volkswagen: steering wheel shakes and need door weather stripping, steering damper, steering wheel

Ron,

I am desperately in need of a help... just bought a 74 cute super beetle but the guy shakes when I reach 40 mph... what should I do (or where should I take it for repair) also the doors need weather stripping... do you know any shop around LA that will do a good job on those matters...

As far as the shimmy goes:

1) Have the tires balanced.

2) Purchase a new steering damper. This part is designed to absorb any 'shimmy'.  They are under $20.00 and available at

Also, the above links sell new door seals.  All of these are simple repairs, and you should be trouble free all for under 100 bucks.
