Volkswagen: uneven suspension, rear torsion bars, rear view mirror
Questionmy 1985 vanagon westfalia sits unevenly. the front end is 2" higher than the back end. what can I do so as the wagon will sit horizontally straight and that both the front and back ends are off the ground at the same higth.
AnswerHi,
The rear torsion bars need to be adjusted.
Due to the weight of the engine and transmission, coupled with the downward force of acceleration, the rear will sag over time.
This is definately a job for the pros. I suggest finding a good front-end/suspension shop. I had it done on my 76 bus and it cost around 600 USD.
You will find it will handle much better, and you will be able to see much farther out your rear-view mirror, once it's level.
Best of Luck,
Ron
