Volkswagen: 74 vw backup light switch, manual transaxle, fuse holder

Neither of my backup lights come on when I put the manual transaxle into reverse.  Both bulbs look okay.  I see in the VW service manual that there is a backup light switch.  My question is - where is the backup light switch located in a 74 vw super beetle?

Look in the engine compartment where the ignition coil is.  Follow the + wire on the coil and it will lead to a black fuse holder.

This fuse is what provides juice to the reverse lights.  This is most likely your problem.
