Volkswagen: automatic window problem, vw cabrio, power buttons

I have a 98 vw cabrio gls.  This morning I unlocked my driver side door and held the key in long enough for the windows to go down.  Once inside of my car, I could not get the windows to roll back up with the power buttons.  The only way I can accomplish the windows going up or down is to hold the key in the passenger side lock.  I can not even get the key to turn in the drivers side door at this point.  Any suggestions?  Thanks, Julie

it is possible that there may be a wiring problem to your drivers door. (check inside the rubber boot between the door and the car body, ie a broken wire). also if the drivers lock will not move to the lock position, then the paddle assembly on the back of the handle may be broken or jammed.
