Volkswagen: Air Conditioning, window decal, york compressor

I am trying to identify the manufacturer of the AC unit on my 79 super beetle. Weather it was dealer, factory, or after market installed. I am going to be needing parts. It has a VPC serial # tag.

Hi Chuck.

Is it an under the dash Unit or Thru the dash?

I have a 1978 Conv. with A/C.  The evaporator goes through the trunk.

Unfortunately, both A/C companies are out of business.  VW never made them,  but used two companies that I personally know of:

DPD out of Texas
KKool out of Texas

I have the DPD diagram of a 1978 Super Beetle and can give you part numbers.  However, you are only going to find them used, or get lucky with NOS.

I know a person in Florida who makes the entire thru-dash system for a Super Beetle. Perhaps he is willing to sell some near-similar parts.

Again:   VW installed at the dealership:  DPD systems and KKOOL systems.  VW never made thier own components.

The compressors both company used were either:

York: Mini York Compressor
Tecumseh:  Aspera Spa Series for bug
Sankyo

If you can ID it as a DPD, I can give you part numbers.  (If it's a KKOOL system, they usually put a window decal in the corner rear window (it's blue and says KKOOL)
