Volvo: 1997 Volvo 850 wagon, mass air meter, michelin mxv
QuestionHi,
I've been reading thru some questions to see if I could find mine already asked. It seems a very similar one was asked on 3/19/2007 about a check engine light and the code being related to MAF. I had the same exact thing happen. FYI... my car has about 160K on it. My garage replaced a bunch of things reset the light and it came back on after about 60 mis of travel. I brought it back, they checked/rechecked - same code, reset and back on it came after 50-60 mis. of travel. We've done this over 4x. They called a Volvo dealership, they suggested disconnecting the battery. They did that, light back on again. Any other ideas? I'm ready to put a piece of duct tape over the console where the light appears and just forget about it.
Last, the car is getting up there in age and miles... I want to keep it around a couple more years so my son will having to start out with. I need to put a couple tires on the front. I have gone thru 2-3 sets of tires already - expensive ones. My garage is telling me I'm crazy for putting high rated tires on the car. Any idea what's good enough - and would cost me around $80/tire vs. $125/tire (that I've paid in the past)?
Thanks!!!!
AnswerDonna,
During the replacement of parts was the Mass air meter one of the parts? It maybe bad that is a common repair. If it has and the light is still on, just to play it safe and give the control unit a chance to power down, have the shop pull out the control unit for a few hours.
Go to a tire store and tell them you would like less expensive tire and see if there is something that the can suggest. I do not see why you could not find a less expensive set. I like Michelin MXV's.
