My Volvo often, but not always, makes a loud clunk when putting the car into reverse from park.  This has been going on for two or three years and does not seem to be getting any worse.  I would like to sell this car to an acquaintance and I'm concerned about what is causing this.

That could be as easy as a bad motor/engine mount, or a problem in the trans. You need to get to a shop to have them diagnosis it. Is the check engine light on? There might even be a code in the trans control unit, that will indicate what the problem is.
