Volvo: 1981 volvo ignition?, oil light, electrical items

Question
When I connect the battery, all the idiot light come on except the oil light. When I turn the key, only the oil light comes on and the windshield wipers are permanently on. The starter will engage, but I don't think any gas is getting in, for it will not turn over. I recently change the battery and alternator and I might have crossed poles on the battery. Can you help me?

If the battery was connected incorrectly, you quite possible shorted out the control unit, and or other electrical items. I would get the car to a shop that works on Volvo's and have them start making some tests, to see if it's worth fixing. Sorry there is no short answer, or easy fix.
