Volvo: mode selector, winter mode, position sensor

Hi Ray, I have a 1997 960 wagon. Out of the blue the mode selector will flash on e and w if e is pushed or s and w if s is pushed, and the arrow light flashes on the dash with the check engine light on.It does not feel that it is engaged in winter mode. I've had this reset once and it happen again. Do you have a clue what the problemis?cpkv4

Since the check engine light is on there should be a code in the system and that needs to be read. If the trans is the control unit that is turning on the light what codes are there? Most times I see problems with the Gear Position Sensor. That is mounted on the trans. Gear Position Sensor fault code is 313.
