Volvo: Fan Speed - 1996 850 GLE, blower motors, fan speed

The fan on my 1996 850 GLE only works in position 4 (not 1 through 3). Any thoughts?

The fan speed resistor is possibly the fault, unless you find the wire is loose or broken. It is mounted to the left of the blower motor in the case. Right side dash behind the glove box. Since the blower motors also go out you may want to replace both.
