QuestionVolvo V70 1999. 130K.
The airconditioner shuts off when you turn the fan up to 4. If
you keep it at 1 or 2 completely fine.
We were told of a tiny hole -- that would mean the coolant
would leak out over a long period of time -- but the
airconditioner works fine at fan speeds 1 and 2.
We are driving to Florida in early August. Should we get a
coolant charge? (will that help it at fan speeds 4 and 5?)
Thanks in advance.
AnswerCraig,
If you are all right with the lower blower speeds, leave it alone. No harm will be done.
A leak in the A/C system is freon that leaks out, along with a small amount of oil. If enought freon leaks the A/C will not cool properly.
By coolant change do you mean engine coolant? If so and it has been a long time between changes by all means have it changes along with a thermostat.
Charging the system and or changing coolant will not stop a leak or allow the 4th speed to work.
