Volvo: volvo 60 versus volvo 80, volvo 60, volvo s60

Question
What is the basic difference between a Volvo S60 & S80 and is the 60 a more reliable car than the 80 & better gas mileage?  I like volvo & cannot find anything I like the looks of but must admit I am scared by reviews I have read of how costly they are to repair & that they have a lot of electrical & trans problems.  Some say major problems are the 1999 thru 2002, something about when Ford became involved.  So would I be better to go 2003 up & start looking at S60 versus 80?

Hello Susie! I would stay with the S60. The S80 from 99-02 is a very troublesome car. Any year S60 is ok. You will find that the 60 is smaller than the 80. If you need more space, I would get an S80 but stay wih 03 and up model years.
