Volvo: volvo s80, volvo dealer, volvo s80

Just love a volvo s80-my mechanic says stay away from european cars they have a lot of electrical problems & he was in general down on volvo.  I have done some reading on the net & it appears 1999-2001 had many problems(electrical & trans).  I am not wealthy , do volvos have a lot of problems & or is it certain years that are particular problems.  I am now thinking maybe going 2002-2004 & what kind of warranty can I get if I do buy in that vintage

Hello! I love Volvo's! But, the S80 for 99-02 is a very troublesome car. I would suggest you stay far away from it. Any other model in those years are fine. Just make sure you have it checked out before you buy. The 03-06 S80 is a pretty solid car. If you really want an S80, I would steer you to those years.  You may also get a 100,000 mile "Certified" warranty through a Volvo dealer.
