Volvo: 88 740 &94 850, volvo 850, maf sensor

Question
when i start my car it fires right up but then it kills. i can start it right back up and it is fine until i put it in gear then it sputters out and stops. when i start it again i let it idle and it is fine. it does this most of the time so i start it and bring the idle up for about 30 seconds and it is fine to drive. any ideas?

94 volvo 850
the blower fan only works in the #4 position. i notice the ac unit engages in the other positions. is this the blower going out and is it a big fix?

740: There may be a problem with the MAF sensor or it may just need the throttle body cleaned and adjusted. I wouls start there.
850: Check all the fuses. there may be one blown. The fan speed 1-3 has a separate fuse. There could also be a fault with the fan resistor.
