Volvo: volvo 960 tranmission fluid, volvo 960, mercon

How do you check/add transmission fluid to a 1996 model.  Also, I have a leak out of one of the accordian boots that fits on the front axle.  What kind of fluid is this and what will happen if i drive it and a lot has leaked out?

Hello Gary! The trans fluid can be checked by the dipstick. It is hidden below the intake manifold. It can be a little tough to get to. Any DexronIII/Mercon fluid is acceptable. It is mot good to run low on any oil. It can cause serious damage. Get the car checked out ASAP by a qualified Volvo technician.
