4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: ford escort 97 lx, eds system, electricity charge

Question
I disconnected the batteries while it was running.  Now it won't start.  I smell something burning when i disconnected the batteries.  I check the sparkplug it has no spark now.  I check the computer system is ok.  eds system is ok.  I can't figure out what wrong with the car, can u help?  I don't know where the burning smell is coming from

did you have the spark plug grounded? it wont spark without touching metal. Also unhooking the battery with it running can indeed fry the computer. a static electricity charge from your clothes can fry the computer so never underestimate that. May have shorted the ignition module maybe...check this first, auto parts store will test for free usually
