4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Jeep Cherokee 4WD, jeep grand cherokee laredo, jeep grand cherokee

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.  When I shift the vehicle into 4WD everything is fine, but when I shift back to 2WD the vehicle stays in 4WD and I must drive over a bump to get it to go back into 2WD.  Is this a serious issue?

I have the same model, and the same problem.  The manual says to accelerate, and back off a couple of times when shifting into 2WD.  This seems to work for me most of the time.  

I have talked to a few transmission shops, and they don't seem to have a real cure for this.  I did change the fluid, and adjust the linkage which seemed to help.  Occasionally I have had to back up several feet, and go forward a few times to free it up.

I am still trying to get a good answer for a cure for this problem.
