4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: ford explorer, auto parts stores, loose connections
QuestionHi I have a 1991 ford explorer and it is stuck in four wheel drive I tried pounding on the solenoid and it didn t work like it has before what so you think the problem is Thanks allot.
AnswerJustin,
If this has happened in the past, and tapping the solenoid worked, then I would suspect that the solenoid/relay has gone bad. I would try replacing it. You should make sure that the transfer case has a good ground. I have seen many transmission/transfer case shifting problems with the electronic shifters have problems when the grounding becomes faulty due to corrosion, or loose connections.
You should consider purchasing a repair manual. You can get these at most auto parts stores for, around $20. They are invaluable when you are working on your own vehicle, especially when trouble shooting.
