89 full size bronco w/electric shift. cannot get out of low range & 4x4. indicator light  flickers

It sounds like a bad ground, or faulty connection.  As far as the wiring goes, you should pick up a repair manual for the Bronco, as it will have the wiring diagrams in it for the electric shift.  These manuals can be purchased at most auto parts stores for, around $20.  A cheap multimeter, or a 12 volt test light can be used to trace out the wiring.   Many times, a new, or additional ground strap running directly from the transmission to a good ground point will cure this problem.
