4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: overheating, gauge needle, temperature gauge
QuestionMy 2000 GC Jeep, 6 cyl seems to be running hot. The temperature gauge needle sets on the upper end of the safe range regardless of driving condition. It is not losing any coolant and electric fan runs whenever engine is running. Coolant looks OK. Could this be a malfunctioning thermostat? What should I do to trouble shoot?
AnswerMike,
This could, very well be a thermostat gone bad. The normal operating temperature on the gauge, is 210 degrees. I would take the Jeep to a reputable shop, and have them check the actual radiator temperature (this can be done with a thermometer), and make sure that it isn't a faulty sending unit, or gauge.
