Suzuki: smoking on startup, air intake ducting, bluish tinge
QuestionMy 2005 XL7 with 94000 miles smokes on startup blue smoke I took off the air intake ducting and opened the throttle body and intake has oil n it.
this engine has been well taken care of with oil changes done by me with good oil and filter.
what could be my problem ?
AnswerAs I remember, the crankcase vent has two paths, the PCV valve, and another to the intake passage between the air filter and the throttle body. That's probably why there's a little oil in the intake passages.
Actually the question SHOULD have nothing to do with a little visible smoke on startup, but whether the oil consumption is more than a quart every 600 miles. If not, then perhaps you're being unnecessarily a little too picky. Even a Porsche or Ferrari in perfect condition can occasionally have a bluish tinge to the exhaust in the first few minutes after cold start. It's not something to be concerned about unless the engine is consuming more than a quart every 600 to 1000 miles.
