QuestionThere are two identical 2004 Buick Rendezvous for sale in the Detroit Michigan area. One has 34,229 miles priced at $15,799. The other has 19,558 miles priced at $17,995.Both are GM Certified. A 2004 with less than 20,000 miles is kind of hard to believe. Dealers are reputable. There is roughly a difference of 15,000 miles and $2,000 between the two. I need a little Imput. Mileage vs price? Don't know if this is the proper place to post. Thanks
AnswerNo question in my mind: go with the lower price and the higher miles, with one caveat: look at condition. People put WAAAAAAAAY too much emphasis on low miles; dealers know this and price there cars accordingly. If condition is the same, then there's virtually no additional wear on the one with 34,000 miles. Why not keep $2,200 in your pocket?
You'll rarely hear the words "always" or "never" cross my lips, but here's an exception: I always, ALWAYS consider condition before I look at mileage. I've bought many high-mileage cars over the years that were real bargains, because people were "afraid of those high miles." Current example: my '92 Town Car with 156,000 miles. I spend very little in repairs, and I don't hesitate to drive it anywhere. Car was well-driven and well cared for before I got it, and that makes all the difference. The 10 year-old "little old lady car" with 15,000 miles? I'll let someone else pay a lot more than it's worth- not me.
