Tips on Buying Cars: Snow tires, leather belts, snow tires

Hi Ray,

   I am also an expert on this site.  This might be slightly out of your area of expertise but do you have any idea when the snow tire was invented?  I know that there was a day when people had regular tires and then put chains on them when it snowed.  But then there came a time when a tire known as a "snow tire" was invented and you put them on in Novemeber and took them off in March.  I remember my dad doing that.  I need the info for an article I am writing.

What an interesting Question,yes Jack its slightly out of my area, and i am sure you done a Google check, right...

Your question made me realize i still have in the basement 2 leather belts with chains in the centre that i used to attach around the tire whenever i would get stuck deep in the snow...hey those were hot sellers back in the 50-60"s
