Tips on Buying Cars: used car (private owner), lincoln mark vii, digital odometer

From Vancouver, Canada. Just went to look at a car, 1988 lincoln mark vii .. everything seemed good. Then I looked it up on carfax and it said the following "CARFAX found an inconsistent odometer reading. CARFAX is uncertain whether this reading represents a rollback or a source-level clerical error" since it is a DIGITAL odometer this seemed strange to me.. just wondering what your opinion is on this

The odometer most likely has been tampered with or replaced...your dealing with a car thats 18 years old, mileage would be a secondary concern compared to overall condition and value for your bucks...
I would insist on a mechanical inspection for soundness and frame damage...it would cost you a few dollars and well worth it...if this cant be arranged simply walk away from the deal
