Tips on Buying Cars: Car purchase - New or Used, red flags, car purchase

I am new in Colorado and wnt to buy a car. A 4WD.  Could please let me know how I can find out what is a good buy/make in this market?

I don't have a clue as to what your needs are, like are you married with 4 kids and a dog where you need something full size, or on the fly where you need something sporty mid size. ?
