Tires: tire size, 16 wheels, dodge durango

I own a 2000 Dodge Durango.  It currently has 265/70/R16.  I need to buy new tires and have been searching for about a week and all the web sites indicate I shoul be buying 265/70/R15.  Will the smaller size fit on the same rims?

If you have 16" tires on your vehicle, then someone changed them at some point in time.  

And - No! - 15" tires will not fit on 16" wheels.

Because you have an unusual situation, you need to talk to someone about what to do.  There are compromises involved in anything you would do, and you need assistance.
