Tires: Tire Size., load ranges, clearance problems
QuestionI have an RV with size 275/70/22.5 tires. I have access to new tires that are 265/80/22.5 Would these tires fit and what would I gain or lose if I made this change?
AnswerSteve,
There are a couple of things that may be issues:
1) 275/70R22.5's come in different load ranges and if you chose to change to 265/80R22.5, you need to - at a minimum - match the load range. Higher would be acceptable.
2) 265/80R22.5's are 1 1/2 inches taller, so there may be clearance problems. You need to check this very carefully because the worst condition is with the suspension fully compressed - AND - with the steering fully turned - a condition very difficult to achieve without dissassembling the front suspension.
