Tires: new tires for my 06 Toyota 4 Runner Limited, all terrain tires, toyota 4 runner

Tire size is 18" on my vehicle. I wanted to buy Bridgestone AT's for my car.  Dealer said not suggested by Toyota and installed 18" HT's instead.  Said I cannot get 18" All Terrain tires for my car. Is it against Toyota's suggestion to put 18" AT's on my car?  (it's a 4 x 4 too)

There may be a number of reasons why the dealer said that.  But it's hard to know without more detail.

I looked up A/T's on Tire Rack and Bridgestone has 2 - and I can't see why either would cause Toyota any problems.

But there are other issues, such as size, that might cause the dealer to make that comment.  But on the surface, I am not aware of anything the Toyota might object to.
