Tires: Trailer Tires, serro scotty trailer, b f goodrich
Question
Serry Scotty Trailer
I recently bought a 1969 Serro Scotty Trailer. The 2 tires are old and need replacing, but I'm having trouble finding replacement tires. Each tire has a different tire size number. I've called many places, but no one seems to recognize either tire size. One is "6.00-15L" and the other is "165 SR 15." Can you please tell me the trailer tire size I need to buy? The trailer itself is only 10 feet long, and with the metal tow bars in the front it is 13 feet long. It's a very small camping trailer.
Thank you!
Samantha
AnswerSamantha,
In the process of trying to answer your question, I ran across a web site devoted to Serro Scotty Trailers. I think they would be a good source of information:
http://www.nationalserroscotty.org/
Here's what they said about tires:
"The original Scotty tires, General 640/15, are no longer available. You can still get that size in Firestone or B.F. Goodrich, however many owners are choosing to go to a modern tire/size. Modern replacement size is F78-15ST (special trailer). Metric size is ST205/75D15. Whatever you choose, go with a bias (either 4 or 6) trailer specific tire and not a car tire. This helps prevent trailer sway. Later Scottys (1979 LITE models, at least) used A78x13" tires."
I think that is your answer.
