QuestionI have an original spare tire as above with the code B3NDLJDX which is on the opposite side from DOT not following it. Can you tell me date of tire. I can't find info on older tires. Thanks
AnswerRoger,
I wrote up a web page to cover this sort of thing:

First, it appears you have everything except the date code.
B3 = Michelin, Nova Scotia, CA.
ND = ?????? In fact, my book doesn't list a code for F70-15 at all, but I have to keep in mind the tire is almost 40 years old.
LJDX = Well, that is tire manufacturer specific and there aren't any decoders available for this part of the code.
Based on this, I would say the sequence you gave me isn't a DOT code.
Normally, DOT codes are in the immediate vicinity of the letters "DOT", so I would suggest you look again.
But I wonder why this is important. I also wonder how you know it is from 1972. Perhaps because it was in the trunk of a 1972 automobile? Be aware that the spare might not be an original spare. Many vehicles of that era had space-saver spares. Google "space saver spare tires" for images and you'll see what they look like.
