Tires: Tire Load Index, inflation pressure, load index
QuestionI am looking to buy tires for my '08 Honda Accord sedan - 4 cylinder. The load range for my vehicle is 93 (I think). I want a a "grand touring all season tire". I am looking at purchasing Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum which have a load index of 97. Is there any problem with purchasing this tire for my vehicle? Will I have to change the PSI? Will it cause the car to have a stiffer ride?
AnswerTony,
If you are buying tires of the same size, then this type of change - Standard Load to Extra Load - is not a problem. The way tires carry load doesn't change when changing from Standard Load to Extra Load, so the pressure would be the same.
The ride quality of a tire is more tied to inflation pressure and the way the tire is designed - and not so much to the Standard Load / Extra Load thing. If you don't like the ride of the new tires, it is more likely because of the tire, not the "Extra Load" part.
