Tires: tire noise, 2008 honda odyssey, honda odyssey
QuestionHello,
2008 Honda Odyssey
Recommended oil change and tire rotation was due, so I performed both. I put the fronts to the rear and the rears on opposite fronts like the manual stated. There is a tell tale shimmy at higher speeds ala wheel balance now. I remember there was dirt on the interior of the rims when changing them. My question is, is this covered under warranty or should I just clean all the rims and see if it disipates?
Thanks
AnswerMike,
In cases such as yours, it is usually that the vehicle has a misalignment condition and the tires developed an irregular wear pattern, which is what is causing the shimmy. This will also come out as a noise.
Regular rotation keeps the wear from becoming bad enough to cause a vibration.
This would not be covered under warranty for 2 reasons.
1) Most vehicle manufacturer's warranties do not cover tires at all, regardless of what happens. There are a few exceptions to this, but Honda is not one of them.
2) OE tires typically come with a warranty from the tire manufacturer and they only cover what is known as "material and workmanship". Since the cause of the irregular wear is misalignment, this is a vehicle related condition, so the materials used to make the tire and the workmanship used the manufacturing process had nothing to do with what happened.
