Tires: different tire size, dodge grand caravan, tire placard
Questionhello i drive a 2003 dodge grand caravan my regular tire size is 215/70/15 but the other day when it went in the shop they put 205/70/15 on the front. I want to know if this is ok or what it may do to my vehicle!
AnswerGregg,
This is going down in load carrying capacity and that increases the risk of a load related tire failure, which sometimes has tragic consequences. This is a safety issue.
On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker – commonly called the tire placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size. The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.
If the placard shows the P205/70R15, then you are OK. If not, then drive back to the tire shop, show them the placard and demand they put on the proper tire size.
