Tires: What is the thickness of sdiewall of a tire?, rear tire, discontinuity
QuestionAs I know from your answer, a puncture tire on sidewall is unrepairable. My rear tire often hit the curb and scratched in sidewall during parking. I am worry about if this could cause similar problem. How thick is the sidewall in a tire?
AnswerWuci,
The problem with a repair in the sidewall is the hole. Sidewalls undergo a lot of movement and any discontinuity - like a hole - is likely to expand. The same is true of damage - which will manifest itself as a bulge or visible cords. If you don't see either of those, you're OK.
BTW the rubber in the sidewall is about an 1/8" think with an additional 1/4" of structural cords.
