Tires: tires- dry rot, judgement call, tire inspection
QuestionI just bought a car three and a half months ago. This past Sunday, my passenger front tire blew out. When inspecting it, my boyfriend said that it was dry-rotted. When I took it to the local tire place, an employee confirmed that the tire blew because it was dry-rotted. I had him go ahead and check the other three tires as well and he said they were dry-rotted too. When I bought the car, the dealership was supposed to have done a 115 point inspection of the car, including tire inspection, since it was previously owned. My question is: if they did the inspection, shouldn't somone have seen that the tires were dry-rotting?
AnswerCarina,
I disagree. Tires do not blow out from dry rot. While the tires might be old - and they might be dry rotted - the 2 things are independent of each other.
So it is quite possible the folks that inspected the car didn't feel the cracks were bad enough to warrant removal. This is a judgement call, and some folks see these things differently.
