QuestionThe tires are Hankook DynaPro MT, 35X12.50 R15LT's, they have small cracks running all through the tread, none on the side walls, I had heard something about the tread coming apart and that there might be a recall on them, do you know anything about this problem?
AnswerDan,
Cracking is a natural result of tires aging and the amount of stress a tire experiences. So in and of itself, cracking is to be expected. However, the degree of cracking might be a decisive factor to replace them.
But you should be aware that recent announcements have indicated that tires may become unsuitable for further service strictly due to age - regardless of the amount of tread left or the miles left in the tread. The consensus seems to be that if you live in a hot climate (CA, AZ, NM, NV, TX, or FL) the limit is 6 years, and if you live in a cold climate (MT, MN, WI, ND, etc) the limit is 10 years. States in between are .... ah ..... in between.
I looked at the Hankook web site and I don't see any announcements of a recall - and they are required by law to post one if there is one. I doubt there is one, but you could call them and ask if you are unsure.
